Macau has an  international airport located offshore at Taipa Island. PHILIPPINE Airlines has boosted frequency to one of its most popular new destinations, Macau, upgrading the service to a daily schedule barely a fortnight after launching it last month on the back of strong market demand. PAL recently began operating daily flights to the former Portuguese territory-turned-gaming mecca on China's southern coast, up from the five-times-weekly frequency when the service was inaugurated on May 1. Better to fly into Hong Kong (more frequent flights), and taking a boat to Macau. The boat is called a jetfoil - it operates 24 hours a day, running every half hour during the day and every hour at night, for a $38 round-trip ticket.
Macau covers all of 27 sq. km (almost 11 sq. miles). About 64km (40 miles) west of Hong Kong across the Pearl River Estuary, so easy to get around. They do have buses and cabs in plentiful supply.Most of Macau's residents speak Cantonese. Macau was an ex Portuguese colony, some place names and signs are in Portuguese. Many locals understand English. Macau's official currency is the Pataca, which divides into 100 avos. You'll find coins in denominations of 10, 20, and 50 avos, as well as 1, 2, 5, and 10 Patacas; and banknotes in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, and 1000 Patacas. The Pataca is linked to the Hong Kong dollar, with an exchange rate of MOP$103.20 = HK$100.00, while 8 Patacas is equal to 1 U.S. dollar. Rua da Felicidade, adjacent of Largo de Senado, is a street filled with interesting antique shops and locally made crafts. A stroll down this street is a must for souvenir seekers. Enjoy a meal at Fernando's on Coloane Island (arrive early, no reservations), or Club Militar. Car Races & Fireworks -- Of Macau's several annual events, none is as popular or draws as many enthusiasts as the Macau Grand Prix, held in mid- to late November. Macau Grand Prix started in 1954, and features races for motorcycles, production cars, and F3 racers, and attracts drivers from all over the world. Very similar to the famous circuit in Monaco, the 6km (3 3/4-mile) Guia Circuit. Jump on a bus and head for Southeast from Coloane Village. There are 2 beaches and the first one is the best, named CHEOC VAN Beach (Bamboo Bay).It's popular with sunbathers and swimmers, even the water looks browny because of the silt caused by the Pearl River. The swimmingpool is ok for a nice rest, sometimes can be crowded with screaming kids. There are public changing rooms and toilets and, in season, lifeguards on duty .Open: 10am-6pm Mon-Sat 9am-6pm Sun May-Oct. Coloane, an island to the south of Macau’s main peninsula, is less developed than the other areas. Inland, there are several hills with unpaved hiking trails. These trails are crowded on weekends
